March 23, 1940 – The first official demand for a separate and independent homeland for Muslims in British India, according to the two-nation theory. Resolution
No constitutional plan would be workable or acceptable to the Muslims unless geographical contiguous units are demarcated into regions which should be so constituted with such territorial readjustments as may be necessary. That in areas where Muslims are in the majority in terms of numbers, such as forming groups for the formation of independent states in the north-western and eastern zones of India, in which constituencies will be autonomous and sovereign.
