Jordanian Princess Alia has adopted two brown bears from Islamabad Zoo

The environment of Islamabad is not much good for the bears. They are not getting too much care; that’s why they are not well. Two Himalayan brown bears are ready to fly to Jordan in 10 days. The only elephant in Islamabad zoo, “Kaavan,” will also leave for Cambodia by the end of November.

The Chairman of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), Dr. Anis-ur-Rehman, said that both bears are ready with their import and export permits. He is sure that bears will receive better physical and psychological treatment abroad.

Dr. Anis-ur-Rehman said,” The bear sanctuary is looked after by the (Jordanian) king’s aunt, Princess Alia, and she has given us an import permit within a day.”

He also said that he had received the import permit for Kavaan. They are willing to accept a 45-years old elephant from Pakistan. He was pleased to tell that this was the first time other countries took their animals for health recovery. He further added, “The government realizes that animals need first-class attention, which these captive animals will receive.”

The bears have no teeth and have been dependent on a human since birth. They can’t survive in Deosai Plains and need proper care. Deosai already has 76 bears, and these two bears can’t survive among them because they have no experience of living with other bears.

Friends of Islamabad Zoo (FIZ) said that the atmosphere of Al-Ma’va is perfect for nature and wildlife. This will be a perfect place for the bears because it is at 3500 feet above sea level, double Islamabad’s height.
