Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop review

The Acer Nitro 5 is Acer’s newest attempt at the affordable PC gaming market, and it checks all the boxes for your portable gaming demands. This gaming laptop, which is ideal for budget-conscious gamers, widens your choices for a cheap laptop that can play more demanding PC games.

That’s because the Acer Nitro 5 offers more for less, starting at $749 (£899, or approximately AU$1009). It has an Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics card and a mid-tier 8th-generation Intel Core CPU, as well as a user-controllable dual-fan cooling system, a respectable 1080p screen, and a keyboard that is pleasant to play on for hours on end.

Features of Acer Nitro 5

Here are some features of Acer Nitro 5

Availability and Price:

However, the Acer Nitro 5 is one of the most cost-effective gaming laptops currently available.

With its $749 starting price, you get the most basic setup, which is the same one we tested.

Design:

The Acer Nitro 5 leaves a lot to be desired in terms of appearance and feel. That’s not to suggest it’s all negative; in fact, there are aspects of it that we like.

With red accents on the keyboard, backlight, trackpad, and top rear bar, we enjoy the muted gamer vibe.

However, the display hinges are solid and tight, and the abundance of connectors is a plus.

Keyboard:

Backing up a second, the Acer Nitro 5’s keyboard is a significant plus. There’s nothing really noteworthy about it.

Although sure, the symbols are red, the illumination is red, and the WASD keys are emboldened in red paint.

The lighting is only enabled when the device is connected in, thus the keys are difficult to see in the dark when it is not.

Trackpad:

Now, here’s where we uncovered a huge problem.

However,  we agree that gaming laptop trackpads are often frowned upon in PC gaming, particularly for FPS, RPG, and action titles.

But, this laptop’s trackpad is so terrible you won’t even want to use it for routine computing duties

The display, camera, and audio:

We have mixed feelings about these three items. The 720p 30fps video recorded by the camera, which has a maximum resolution of 720p, is grainy.

However, if you’re looking for high-quality images, you’ll have to go elsewhere.

The laptop’s sound is a touch over-exaggerated and echoey, but you can adjust it using the Dolby Audio equalizer.

In other words, it’s just another laptop with mediocre audio – unless you’re Origin, of course.

Pros:

  • Controllable fans by the user
  • a long battery life
  • Good value for the money when it comes to gaming performance

Cons:

  • a large bezel around the screen
